Craig's Travel Journal Day 9: Tuesday, May 24

Tuesday, May 24
It’s complicated to explain, but suffice it to say I made a bit of an error on the breakfast room service order form and we ended up with breakfast for four. Just a tad embarrassing.

After breakfast, we went to the salon above the spa and I had my beard trimmed (I didn’t want to pack my trimmer because it would take up unnecessary space) and Laura had a pedicure. She had me pick the color, which I think amused the beautician.

We disembark tomorrow so I returned my rental tux while Laura was at the salon and we occupied ourselves on our computers for the morning. Laura came back from the salon and we went to lunch.

The sea has calmed as we’ve gotten out of the storm, so passage is much nicer again. The skies were grey but with sun making its way through for most of the day and for the first time in days the outer decks were open, all but on the bow of the ship. After lunch we grabbed our rain jackets and did a circumference of the Deck 7 track and then we went to the back to the ship where the sun was shining and climbed the stairs to Deck 12. It was too windy to look around so we went back in and headed back to our stateroom.

We saw birds today, so we know we’re getting closer to land, and while we were out on the deck we could see a dark spit of land on the horizon and the white speck of a lighthouse. Looking at the ship’s charts, we think it was the southern tip of Ireland.

We relaxed in the room, reading through the debarkation procedures to prep for tomorrow morning, then set about to packing in the evening as bags are to be outside our the guest rooms between 6 pm and midnight. We set out two of our three bags. We’ll carry off our third in the morning that will take the clothes on our backs from today.

Snacks at the bar. They're running out of food. That's bits of salmon stacked in spoon.

Dinner was supposed to be “fancy” but the “surf and turf” wasn’t all that much. The lobster was baked, making it tough, and my filet was fine but Laura and the older couple had a real hard time cutting theirs. For dessert they made crepes suzette again, but I’m not a fan because of all the fresh citrus juice, so I had a white mousse, which I was surprised I liked because I also don’t like white chocolate.

Surf & Turf. Sorta.

Crepes Suzette. Again.

My white chocolate thingy.

We said our farewells to our tablemates and returned to our room to finish packing, trying to make it to bed early as we would be getting up early tomorrow.

Tonight we sail around into the English Channel and on along the southern coast of England into Southampton, arriving around 4:30 am. Early rise tomorrow, deboat (I made that up), and then off to a train to London.
