Before we moved, Courtney wanted to paint her bedroom and Kai's. Craig and I were only going to be home 4 days in the 2 weeks before we moved. Kai was at the house with me, waiting for the cable hookup (without heat! it was an awesome morning). Courtney texted me from school asking how long the wall was on the right side of her window. I didn't have a tape measure, so I decided to use Kai instead. I sent her this and said "About half a Kai":
Now, you might think Kai is looking skeptical about being used as a measuring tape...as she ought to be, because you'll also probably notice she is on the left side of the window. Courtney, aware of my left/right issues, kindly responded, "Oh, I meant to ask about the wall on the other side of the window." But the way I used Kai as a measuring instrument made her laugh, so I guess it worked out.
Courtney also asked if I could capture a picture of Kai looking sad against the color of her walls while I was prepping the room to paint. This was the best I got. The walls don't look that bad in this picture, but the color was more of a baby-poop-yellow in real life.

We managed to throw a coat of paint up in Kai's room and one in Courtney's room that night. I might add that we did this without heat, as the pilot lights were lit the next day. While painting kept us warm, I challenge you to try to clean up from painting with only ice cold water...
Courtney and I didn't finish painting. Kai's room needed a second coat - that yellow was obnoxious. And Courtney wanted stripes in her room. But early Friday, Craig and I were off to a weekend conference. We returned home on Sunday only to pack our bags and head to TEDActive on Monday.
Most of you know that Bryce is a reluctant driver. He took his time getting his licence and doesn't really care to drive himself now. With so much going on, this has only added to our drama. With Craig and I gone so much, we were taking every spare second to move stuff to storage or take donations...and we had to have his car. Bryce has refused to drive my car, although I've offered several times. (I kept asking him to drive home, telling him he should get familiar with it in case he wanted to go somewhere when it was the only vehicle available.) This all exploded Thursday night, when we realized he was going to have to take my car to school on Friday so that Craig and I could use his car to move bigger things to storage.
Craig took him out in it Thursday night (you might have thought he was forcing him at gunpoint). After they returned home, I had figured out another way (Bryce could take Craig's car, we could go pick it up with the spare key and return it when we were done moving stuff, and take my car for the weekend; and various other options). But Bryce had decided my car was easier to drive (as I'd been telling him for weeks - if he can manage not to hit anything with his dad's monstrosity, I feel perfectly confident he won't hit anything with my much smaller car), so he took it to school. Bryce opted to keep my car for the week we were at TED, as well.
Craig and I drove out to Palm Springs for TED. At the hotel, we followed a golf cart to our parking spot. This is Craig's car, parked at the hotel:
I sent this picture to Bryce with a text that said, "I thought you'd taken my car to school..."
TED was an amazing week, which warrants a separate email, so I'll go back to that later. For now, back to the move.
While waiting for various hookups at the house, I'd been doing some planning. You can see that in this pictures (even if you can't read my writing):
I've made a few adjustments, but the basic goal was to get all of Kai's stuff at her level, plus anything plastic...because she loves to help put away dishes from the dishwasher, but it was somewhat impossible in the old house. And I must say, she is THRILLED to be able to get her own plates now.
